Get Moving! (No equipment necessary!)
Team sports not your thing? Need some new ideas in the off-season? Here's a list of activities you can do this winter in your own home (and beyond!) that don't require anything but your energy, enthusiasm, and imagination!
- Snow day? Grab your brothers and sisters for a snowball fight in the backyard.
- Give your snowmen (and women!) red carpet status by dressing him or her up as your favorite celebrities. Use yarn for hair, licorice for lips, etc. Make it a contest with your siblings and have your parents judge the winner.
- No snow? Head outside for a walk or jog around the neighborhood.
- Too cold? Host a dance party with your BFFs, then munch on some of these yummy snacks.
- Check out a workout video from the library and get moving!
- Hiking around the mall is a great way to get moving! Take the stairs and power walk to your favorite stores. Don’t forget to grab a smoothie for a yummy calcium boost while you’re there!
- Play some active video games—like the new fitness ones that challenge your balance and endurance, or one that lets you compete against your friends in a boxing or tennis match!
- Having a sleepover? Play sardines (reverse hide-and-seek where one person hides and as each person finds the hiding person, they have to pack in with that person, and so on).
Don’t have any slopes nearby or looking for something different? Lace up your skates at a local ice rink. Check out these tips before you go.
