Julie Zetlin, a rhythmic gymnast, is the 2010 U.S. National Champion and the 2010 Pan American Champion. Her performance at the 2010 Rhythmic World Championships made Julie the first American-born gymnast to qualify for the rhythmic all-around finals at the World Championships. She is well on her way toward earning a spot on the 2012 Olympic team!
Hometown: Bethesda, Maryland
Age: 20
Interests and hobbies: My other big loves are acting and dance. I love music, fashion, surfing, and traveling.
What do you want to be when you grow up? An actress, but if that doesn't work out then probably a sports psychologist
Favorite snack: dried fruit or chocolate covered nuts
Favorite activity: dancing and acting or just generally performing :)
Who's your BFF? mama :) and some girls from home: Leah Gebler, Tara Yavari, Allie McGowan
Favorite thing to do with your BFF? Anything and everything. With my mom, it’s having her to talk to when I am really down.
What advice do you have for other girls? Whatever you do in life, make sure you love it, because you won't be successful if you don't, and most importantly, you won't be happy.
Do you have a role model? Yes. I look up to three different athletes: Mary Sanders (former Olympian and rhythmic gymnast from the U.S.), Alexandra Orlando (also former rhythmic gymnast and Olympian from Canada), and Shawn White. The two former gymnasts are such genuine people inside and outside of the gym, and I got to know them both very well. They were such passionate gymnasts and had to overcome so many boundaries to achieve their dreams. Shawn White is incredible to me because of his whole outlook on his sport, and his drive. He seems so down to earth, which is rare to find in top athletes.
What's one quirky thing people don't know about you? That I don't care about being myself. If people don't like it, that's fine by me!
