Connect with a Text

Mom texting her daughterIf your tween or teen daughter is texting regularly, chances are you've picked up the habit as well as a way to communicate with her. A recent study by Samsung found that 68% of American parents text their teens regularly. And the conversations seem to be working — more than half of teens feel their relationship with their parents has improved since they began communicating via text.

Your tween or teen daughter may be more likely to respond to a text message than a phone call, particularly if she's with her friends. Beyond reminding her what time to be home for dinner or checking in with her after school, a text from you can help your daughter build healthy habits.

Use some of these sample text messages to remind your daughter to build strong bones by getting more physical activity and eating plenty of foods with calcium and vitamin D. (You can abbreviate or use "text speak" as appropriate.)
